Chapter 46 explain how to write and response to text. The word text can be define in many different ways. The word text is used to refer to essays, periodical articles, government reports, books, and even visuals such as advertisements and photographs. To better understand how to write and response to text these are the techniques that should be done: read actively, sketching a brief outline, summarize to demonstrate understanding, analyze to demonstrate critical thinking, and understand the types of texts analyzed in different disciplines. Read actively means jotting down questions and thoughts, because you want to engage in the writing not just reading it. Sketching a brief outline of the text helps you understand it better. Summarize to demonstrate understanding state the work's main ideas and key points. You want to make sure that you look for information that explains it purpose. When you analyze you study the parts, how a text makes its point. Lastly, understanding the types of texts analyzed in different disciplines. Each field has its own questions but they all share certain exceptions.
After reading chapter 46 I have understand that to be a good reading we need to engage in our reading. Don't just read the text but also understand what it means. We should picture our self as the writer, asking questions and understanding its point. I find myself reading something over a few times because I don't understand it the first time. I like the idea of jotting down questions and important points so I don't have to read it multiple times.
