The Joy of Reading and Writing Dialogue

How is educational a means to save one's life: How is Alexie attempting to save the life of the students he works with? How did Alexie save his own life?

Educational is a means to save one's life its because educational gives individuals more opportunities. With more opportunity you're able to do more of what you want to do and not being limited or stuck to what someone else decides or think its good for you. In Alexie story, educational gave him an opportunity to be who he wants to be, not a typical Indian boy that lives on the reservation and have his life predetermined for him. Alexie attempt to change the lives of the students he works with by visiting them and educating them how important education is. With the reservation school system he was never taught how to write poetry, short stories, or novels. He wants to inspire them to become what they want to be, not be what other chose for them to be. Alexie saved his own life by following his dream. He knows that he's not stupid so he's not going to pretend that he is. He has a passion for reading, he read everything including cereal box. If Alexie didn't do what he did and went along with the reservation school system by following the foot step of those before him, he would never be where he is now by this Alexie saved his own life.

Writing topic for chapter 4

Chapter 4 covers how to organized and/or prepare a paragraph. A paragraph should focus around a main point, which should be clear to the readers. There are many things to consider while writing; you want to make sure that you focus on a main point, develop the main point, be organized, make sure the paragraphs coherent, and make any adjustments to the paragraph length. A topic sentence acts as a summary that provides the readers the writers main ideas that will follow in the paragraph. Some writers may not include a topic sentence in the beginning of their writing but will wait til the end. Its crucial for business writers to have their topic sentence along with the headings, since readers often scan for information. In the body of the paragraph you want to make sure that you have enough supporting information to convince the readers your main point but make sure that you're organized if not you'll lose the reader. Paragraph coherent can be done by strengthening the ties between old information and new. Lastly, the chapter concludes the possible needs of adjusting the paragraph length. Depending on what you're writing about you don't want it to be too short or too long.
Chapter 4 is very useful to me because it shows me step by step directions on how to be a better writer. I didn't know that there are so many different ways on writing. I find myself many times struggling on organizing and providing information to support my ideas. Now when I write and find myself running into a speed bump, I would reference back to this chapter.

Writing topic for chapters 2 & 3

Chapter 2 & 3 from Rules for Writers focuses on drafting and revising. Drafting is basically brain storming. Putting all your ideas together on how to hook the reader, by having a good introduction and thesis. The introduction focuses on the main points you're going to talk about in your paper. You want to make sure that your paper is interesting to keep the reader curious wanting to know more so they can continue reading. After drafting your writing its important to revised it to check for any typos, grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Often time its good to proof read your paper out loud or have someone else proof read it because they might find an error that you might not caught.
I find it very useful to gather as much information on your topic before putting it in writing. When I start writing I tend to find myself pausing/stopping frequently due to not knowing what else to write or where I should start. Also, it makes your writing more organized then you would know exactly what you're going to talk about next. I like proof reading my draft out loud so then I can hear it to see if it make sense, another think I like to do is have someone else read it because it might make sense to me, but not to the readers and they can give me some good feed backs.
